Who we are
Over 180 Bow Valley residents working collectively to sponsor two Syrian families to settle in the Bow Valley.
Progress to date
Since our initial meetings in November 2015, we have raised over $90,000, assembled a volunteer team/support network, secured suitable housing, and completed and submitted two refugee sponsorship applications. In October 2016, we welcomed the Kahkejian family – Antranik, Rema, Tia, Sevan, Srkis, and Eklas – to their new home in Canmore. In December 2016, we submitted an application to bring a second family to the Bow Valley. You can find more news on our Updates page.
Our Sponsorship Partnership
We are very fortunate to be working hand-in-hand with Ralph Connor United Memorial Church in Canmore. RCMUC, with the United Church of Canada as the Sponsorship Agreement Holder (SAH), is the formal signatory for our refugee sponsorship application. By working with RCMUC we were able to by-pass some of the red tape associated with the sponsorship application process. Although RCMUC is a key partner, the Bow Valley Syria Refugee Project is a secular project – open to people of all (or no) faiths. We work closely with Bow Valley Settlement Support Services and the Bow Valley Immigration Partnership.
How you can help
We are grateful for the support of Ralph Connor Memorial United Church, the Canmore Rotary Club, and Mountain Munchkins Daycare — and our many volunteers — as we complete this journey!
